Hypnosis Solutions - Imagery FAQ |
 |
|
What is Guided Imagery? Guided Imagery is purposeful imagination used to achieve a specific positive outcome. Golfers use imagery each time they visualize hitting a golf ball into the hole. Our bodies do not know the difference between real and imagined scenarios.
Studies using MRI's show that whether a subject actually experiences something or only imagines it, the brain activity recorded by the MRI is the same.
How can Guided Imagery help me? Because your body and mind physiologically respond to imagery, it can help you:
- plan positive outcomes by experiencing them first through imagery
- improve athletic/sports performance (golf, tennis; any sport)
- enhance immune function, improve health, speed up recovery
- release emotion and heal
What is the difference between Guided Imagery and Hypnosis?
- Hypnosis in its simplest form is Suggestion-oriented: the hypnotist uses his/her voice to speak specific words and phrases to suggest a positive outcome. Imagery is often used within and in conjunction with hypnosis.
- Guided Imagery is Visually-oriented. The hypnotist guides you through a visual journey for a specific purpose (such as relaxation, health, performance, emotional release) using all the senses: imagined sight, smell, hearing, touch, taste.
Can I be made to ‘go somewhere’ I don’t want to go in Guided Imagery? No. Your goal is discussed and agreed upon prior to imagery, your imagery is individualized for You and your specific request.
Is Guided Imagery compatible with my religion? Yes. All religions are compatible with guided imagery as it is simply using the imagination for a positive result.
